Presentation skills and professional communication in virtual environment

The workshop will be held in English (recommended level is B1+ and above).

Course content/syllabus (two main areas):

1. Focus on linguistic aspects and the art of efficient delivery

The first part of this workshop combines theoretical input with practical tasks focussing on the use of academic English; the instructor(s) will pay careful attention to pronunciation, word and sentence stress, vocabulary, grammar, and appropriate style. Workshop participants will be offered a corpus of useful language chunks that will facilitate delivering professional presentations in English. We will also look at the means, skills, and tools of how to interact with the audience and how to overcome stage fright and stress.

2. Focus on technical aspects of presenting online

We will go also over the principles of presenting online. We will start from the technical settings of your online presentation such as camera positioning, use of natural and artificial light, choice of background. We will discuss differences between presenting online and offline, such as how your non-verbal communication is affected, how to adjust your verbal communication to make it more efficient, and how to use „share-screen“ mode wisely. Finally, we will share some tips on how to organize a smooth discussion online.

Upon completing the workshop, participants will have learned several key principles of presenting successfully (not only) online and will be able to boost the delivery of a (scientific/academic/professional) presentation in English.
