Sleep Hygiene, Understanding Insomnia

The main obstacle to good sleep hygiene is not doing it rather than not knowing what to do. The first part of the online webinar, therefore, concentrates on explaining it through the lens of the neuropsychology of sleep, allowing everyone to understand the reasoning behind healthy sleep recommendations. In the end, you will be able to reconsider your sleeping habits in the light of their general efficiency, rather than blindly following generic rules.

In the second part, we will discuss the causes and perils of insomnia and the ways to deal with it based on the personal experience of the lecturer. Just please be aware that we may discuss general options and treatments a person unsatisfied with their sleep has rather than giving any clinical advice. The first and second parts will be divided with a short break.

About the Lecturer

Vojtěch Pišl is a psychologist. After graduating in neuropsychology at Maastricht University, he became a doctoral student and junior researcher at the Psychiatry Clinic, Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen. He is mainly interested in how the cultural construction of mental disorders influences the experiences of patients. What is the difference between calling our suffering disorder, trauma, ordeal, or just an inherent part of human life? With respect to the topic of the webinar, Vojtěch also has first-hand experience with not knowing how to fall asleep efficiently.
