First Aid Course

First aid is a basic skill that might come in handy when we least expect it. We all have the ability to learn it and use it, no matter how skillful or knowledgeable we are in the field of medicine. Come join us and some of our medicals students in refreshing or even learning your skills in a practical setting, diving into some of the most common life threatening situations you might come across as a bystander. You will learn how to act in emergency situations. This 90-minute workshop is going to take place on [Date and time is to be determined] and will be led by student and international ambassador Daniela Mendes of the Third Faculty of Medicine. It is intended primarily for CU international students, but open to international employees as well.

COURSE PLAN:

1. INTRODUCTION

We will listen to a real-life audio, after that students will be divided into two groups.

2. STATION HANDLING UNCONSCIOUSSNESS (group A)

Students will watch a model situation of a victim and a rescuer, then we will go through the model situation step by step. Students will then be asked to work in pairs to learn how to check for breathing and head tilts. After that, students will learn how to do a cardiac massage training and a maintaining continuous massage.

3. STATIONS OF LIFE TREATENING SITUATIONS (group B)

Students will learn how to stop a victim´s bleeding using wound pressure and pressure bandage. Then, students will learn what to do in case the victim is suffocating. After that, we will be discussing myocardial infarction and stroke. We will end this session by taking about anaphylactic shock (+ EpiPen) and hypoglycaemic shock.
