Practical measures to support those affected by crisis situations in higher education
On 25-26 February 2025, a meeting will take place in Prague with representatives of the research organization Norwegian Centre for Violence and Traumatic Stress Studies (NKVTS) and representatives of Charles University, other universities, government institutions and initiatives involved in helping after the tragic events at Charles University. Norwegian experts will share findings from a unique research focusing on the experiences of survivors and their immediate family members after the attack on 22 July 2011 on the island of Utøya in Norway.
The collaboration between Charles University and NCVTS was established in response to the tragic events of 21 December 2023 at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University. The Norwegian National Research Centre for Violence and Traumatic Stress Studies (NKVTS) focuses on research on violence and traumatic stress and also advises the Norwegian government on its areas of expertise.
Following the terrorist attack on Utøya on 22 July 2011, which left 69 dead and 66 injured, NKVTS initiated research to explore the experiences of survivors and their immediate family members. This unique multi-year study provides new and important insights into the impact of the emergency on young people and the risk factors affecting their future lives. Using the Norwegian experience and their research findings can help to set strategic plans and can also serve as an important source of information to set new systematic measures at Charles University and other educational institutions.
The findings will be presented in Prague by Professor Lise E. Stene (NKVTS) and Kristin A. Glad (NKVTS). You can read more about the Norwegian research here.
