Change in student fares in the PID system

From 1 January 2026, there will be a change in how eligibility for student discounts is proven in the Prague Integrated Transport (PID) system. Below you will find a clear explanation of who is affected by the change and how to proceed.

✅ If you have a Charles University card with an ISIC licence

We have good news for you: this change does not affect you. A valid ISIC card (plastic or digital) will continue to be recognised by PID in the same way as before, with no new obligations.

What if you do not have an ISIC, only a CU student card?

⚠️ From January 2026, it will no longer be possible to use a Charles University student card without an ISIC licence as proof of eligibility for a student discount in PID.

  • The student card will be accepted only until the expiry of an already purchased time coupon.

  • After the end of the cooperation, it will no longer be possible to purchase a new coupon using this card.

This change was not decided by Charles University. It was caused by the termination of the contract by the Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) and, unfortunately, cannot be influenced by CU.

How to obtain a student discount in PID without an ISIC card?

The current procedure is available on the PID website. When purchasing a coupon, you must submit a valid confirmation of study:

  • either the original paper version, or

  • an officially verified digital version.

You must carry the confirmation of study with you, as it must be presented during a ticket inspection if the coupon was purchased on this basis.

Which study documents does PID accept (students aged 18–26).

1. Confirmation of study (paper)

  • only the original or an officially verified copy of the digital version (verification via Czech POINT)

  • must be in Czech

  • valid only within the territory of the City of Prague

  • in the regional area (outer fare zones), eligibility for the discount can be proven, in addition to an ISIC card, also by a verified pupil/student card (orange) confirmed by the school and verified by the card issuer (DPP/PID)

  • validity is always for the entire academic year (typically from 09/xxxx to 10/xxxx+1)

2. ISIC card (no change)

  • plastic or digital, must have a valid licence

  • valid for the entire duration of the ISIC validity

  • study abroad can be proven exclusively with an ISIC card

🔎 What is currently being discussed?

Charles University is currently negotiating with DPP and PID about the possibility of proving eligibility for the discount in the future via an electronic confirmation of study. However, it is not yet clear when (or if) this option will be introduced. Students will be informed in time of any changes.
