Web of Science & Journal Citation Reports for Ph.D.

This workshop offers a practical introduction to Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports especially for doctoral studies and research practice. Participants will learn how to search for relevant scholarly literature effectively, formulate search queries, use filters, save searches, set up alerts, and track citation connections.

The workshop will also cover the Web of Science Researcher Profile, including how to review publication records, connect them with ORCID ID, and understand the importance of correct authorship and affiliation assignment. In the Journal Citation Reports section, participants will be introduced to finding suitable journals in their field and interpreting key metrics such as the Journal Impact Factor and quartiles. The programme will also briefly touch on AI features in Web of Science and the Research Horizon Navigator as a supporting tool for exploring research trends.

Designed for doctoral candidates across disciplines, the workshop places emphasis on practical skills that can be applied in a wide range of research fields.

Lecturer

Daniela Mertlová, MSc, has been working at Clarivate for the past two years, collaborating with academic and research institutions, particularly in supporting the effective use of Web of Science tools and related solutions for research evaluation, publication strategy, and navigation in scholarly literature. In her work, she focuses on the practical application of these tools for researchers, doctoral candidates, and institutional research support. She has experience delivering training sessions, workshops, and consultations for academic audiences in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and abroad.
