Show Your Presentation

Have you ever attended a presentation with a fascinating topic but found yourself sleeping through most of it? Surely, the speaker had something worth sharing but failed at one crucial thing: to make it relevant for you. Bearing the audience in mind is an essential aspect of any effective presentation. This is also the goal of this workshop - to leave the room knowing how to make your audience care about what you have to say. Using hands-on activities, we are going to analyze many examples to follow (and to avoid as well). The main focus is going to be on clear structure, how to use icebreakers and conclusions, and how to present your research as a story.

Lecturer: Mgr. et Mgr. Martin Sedláček from Center for Academic Writing. Having graduated in English Language and Linguistics and Anglophone Literature and Cultures, he moved on to study Japanese at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. Currently, he focuses on expressing movement in a contrastive perspective – namely English, Czech, and Japanese. His areas of academic interest include cognitive linguistics and construction grammar.
