The Charles University Resilience Centre was established in the summer of 2024 in response to the tragic events at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University on 21 December 2023.
The aim of the Resilience Centre is to help members of the Charles University community—both students and staff—cope with personal as well as global challenges they may encounter.
Resilience is understood as the ability of an individual or a community to return to constructive functioning after a crisis or stressful situation. It is a lifelong learning process that can be developed and strengthened with appropriate help and support.
Having a well-developed support system is essential for overcoming crises or managing periods of stress.
Resilience is not only the ability to manage difficult situations—it is also a way of acquiring key skills and knowledge that have a long-term positive impact on a person’s life.
For Charles University students, this means, among other things, better employability, improved ability to adapt to change and stressful situations, and greater psychological well-being. For staff, developing resilience provides an opportunity to acquire skills that can help them deal with challenging situations in both their personal and professional lives.
